What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy/counselling involves talking with a trained professional with the objective to treat or manage emotional difficulties, interpersonal and relationship challenges, life stress and/or mental illness. This service is provided at Silver Spruce by Registered Social Worker, Amreeta Kaur.
Who does psychotherapy help?
Psychotherapy can be helpful to everyone: those facing a difficult period in their lives or those ready to explore unresolved issues from the past that may be continuing to affect them.
Amreeta works one-on-one with adults and adolescents who are experiencing challenges related to:
- Life changes or milestones
- Managing emotions
- Family of origin
- Grief and loss
How does psychotherapy work?
Psychotherapy provides a safe, confidential space to explore your challenges and begin healing. Amreeta takes a holistic and integrative approach to therapy, drawing on various theories and evidence-based approaches and working together to find the right approach to meet your goals. These approaches include strengths-based, cognitive-behavioural therapy, solutions-focused, mindfulness, and others.
The process of psychotherapy can help you to:
- identify unhelpful patterns in your beliefs, thoughts, feelings and relationship dynamics
- develop a more compassionate understanding of yourself
- access your unique strengths and resources
- develop coping skills and effective solutions to your problem or situation
- be more connected to yourself and others
- feel grounded within
- find your voice
- make positive changes in your life.
How do I schedule an appointment?
Your first psychotherapy appointment will be a complimentary 15 minute telephone consultation to discuss your needs and to determine if psychotherapy is the right service for you. You can book online or by calling the clinic at 905-554-5599.
At the end of the consultation, we can set up your first in-person 50-minute session, where you and Amreeta will explore your situation and issues in depth, and also define your goals for psychotherapy. After that, how often and for how many sessions you meet depends on you. Together, you and Amreeta can determine a schedule that is based on your needs, goals and other commitments.
