Craniosacral Therapy in Markham

What Is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a form of bodywork in which the therapist lightly palpates the bones of the skull, spine and sacrum (in the pelvis). Through this gentle, non-invasive manipulation, CST aims to release restrictions, regulate the flow of cerebral spinal fluid, and improve central nervous system function.

Who Does Craniosacral Therapy Help?

CST can be an effective way of treating pain, tension and stress-related conditions, including:

  • migraines and headaches
  • irritable bowel syndrome
  • fibromyalgia
  • chronic neck or jaw pain
  • insomnia

What Does Craniosacral Therapy Involve?

The therapist first uses their hands and intuition to feel the patient’s craniosacral “rhythms.” The therapist then subtly manipulates bones of the cranium and sacrum, applying light manual traction to restore proper motion of the bones, tissues, and cerebral spinal fluid. The treatment is gentle and, for many patients, deeply relaxing. Patients may remain clothed during a treatment and should wear loose, comfortable clothing.

Treatments are generally 45-60 minutes long. Craniosacral therapy is performed at Silver Spruce by a Registered Massage Therapist and can be combined with massage therapy sessions.
